In a bid to ensure transition from paper-based to digital process of birth registration, the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) has trained volunteers in Kogi State on Electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics System (e-CRVS).
The three days training was held simultaneously for the volunteers in the Eastern Senatorial Districts at three different locations, namely Idah, Anyigba and Ankpa in partnership with the National Population Commission (NPC).
The training was aimed at building the capacity of the Ad-hoc Staff to facilitate seamless birth registration, particularly moving from paper process to digital registration.
Speaking at the Ankpa Local Government Council Chamber, venue for volunteers from Ankpa and Olamaboro Local Government Areas, Alh. Yaba Zakari-Yau, Comptroller NPC Ankpa, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the Participants, whom he noted have been adequately trained for the task ahead.
According to him, the e-birth Registration exercise is for children from age 5 and below years, saying the Volunteers are expected to go back to their various wards to register children between the specified age.
“They are to use their devices, that is android to do the registration. The information gathered will be sent to the cloud and certificates will be provided and sent to every beneficiary.
He maintained that during the registration, the National Identification Number (NIN) of mothers of each child will also be linked, pointing out that the Agency is also partnering with the National Identification Management Commission (NIMC) for the exercise.
On his part, Abdullahi Mohammed Ozovehe, State Accountant of NPC, who was on ground to monitor the exercise, stated the programme was hitch free and applauded the volunteers for the large turnout and cooperation.
Ozovehe noted that the exercise will add value to the population index of the control and provision of adequate data for national planning.
One of the Volunteers, Rachael John in an interview, commended the UNICEF and NPC for the Training, saying she is ready to put in her best towards justifying the confidence reposed in her.
