It is no longer news that the Councillor representing Enjema Ward three in Ankpa Local Government Area, Honourable Nasiru Yahaya used his first salary to rehabilitate a broken borehole in Inye, one of the communities in his ward.
The borehole was reported to have be constructed during the colonial era in 1959 by the Water Board during the period and continued to be maintained by the community until it completely broke down about eight years ago.
According to the report all efforts by the community to resuscitate it about two years ago failed which left to its complete abandonment.
Upon assumption of duty however Honourable Nasiru Yahaya contacted engineers to check on the Borehole who confirmed that it was bad due to failed pumping machine also known as Sumo, damaged pipes among others.
Honourable Nasiru who won his election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Worried by the suffering of his constituents, however embarked on the repair work which was put at over three hundred thousand Naira .
The Councillor upon receiving the report, decided to sponsor the resuscitation of the broken borehole with his first salary.
The gesture by the Councillor has since ensured the restoration of potable water supply to the community amidst wild jubilations.
Apart from the forgoing, the Councillor has started other developmental efforts from his allowance and salaries as the case may be.
It note worthy that Ankpa Local Government Area is known to have large land mass with various communities yearning for development.
Consequently ,the timely intervention of Honourable Nasiru Yahaya is an indication that much is required to be done by politicians and well to do individuals in the area to enhance the development of the Area.
The bold step of Honourable Nasiru Yahaya to use his meagre first salary to settle Inye Community need is also a pointer that politicians should begin to exhibit selflessness, if Kogi State in particular and Nigeria in general will witness accelerated development.
As it is always echoed by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo both in private and public fora that he has come to serve the people and not to lord over them, it now behoves the political class in the State to support the Governor to succeed.
It is agreeable that no society can grow without selflessness, sacrifice and determination as exemplified by Honourable Nasiru Yahaya, the Councillor for Enjema Ward three in Ankpa Local Government Area.
If all elected and appointed politicians in the State could identify pressing needs of their Constituencies and solve them, the burden of development on the State Government will be drastically reduced.
The Sterling example of the Councillor representing Enjema Ward three, Honourable Nasiru Yahaya is therefore a challenge not only to the political class but to religious leaders to encourage their followers to embark on selfless services to their host communities.
A situation whereby people nowadays believe in what they can get from the society rather than what they can contribute to it must be discouraged by all means which is the fulcrum of the message that the selfless service of Honourable Nasiru Yahaya has preached to the people.
With the donation by Honourable Nasiru Yahaya, it means there is hope of a brighter future for the State as youths are now encouraged to engaging in meaningful ventures in contributing to the Development of the society.
It is at this juncture that all people of good will are expected to support Honourable Nasiru Yahaya and his fellow compatriots who are ready to make sacrifices for the development of the society.
With the good beginning of Honourable Nasiru Yahaya in the political arena at the Councillorship level, it is hoped that the All Progressives Congress will mark him to contest for higher office in subsequent elections. Because he might be one of the sellable candidate of the party in the coming election if all things being equal.
It is also hoped that the Chairman of Ankpa Local Government, Engineer Adamu Yahaya Mohammed who is also a selfless leader would give more support to the selfless councillor to do more for his ward.
By so doing the steam of selflessness in Honourable Nasiru Yahaya will be energized and more people of good will will toe the noble path for a greater Ankpa Local Government and Kogi State in general.
