Kogi State Government has identified forty two Internally Displaced Person Camps ahead of the predicted flood in the State by the Nigeria Meteorological Agency NiMet.
The Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Alhaji Mouktar Atima made this known on Monday, while speaking on this week’s edition of State of Kogi, a Radio Kogi Audience Participatory programme.
Alhaji Mouktar stated that the IDP Camps cut across the 9 Local Government Areas that are usually affected by floods, noting that necessary stakeholders have been engaged as part of efforts to mitigate the disaster.
The Executive Secretary while reiterating the preparedness of the State for the impending flood, urged those living along flood prone areas to move to higher ground as soon as possible.
He maintained that with the political will, being demonstrated by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and support of critical stakeholders, the State is ready to tackle any disaster.
Alhaji Mouktar however stated that the quarterly palliative programme introduced by the present administration has recorded remarkable successes with Bags of rice, garri, maize, sorgium and others, distributed to hundreds of thousands of households.
According to him, efforts put in place to check diversion of the items have yielded positive results.
