The lawmaker representing Kogi East Senatorial District, Senator Isah Jibrin (Echocho), has condemned the attack in Agojeju Odo in Omala Local Government Area of Kogi state, which left at least 19 persons dead, and burning of over 50 houses.
A statement by his Special Adviser on Media on Friday, said Echocho described the development as worrisome and intolerable, noting that, he had directed the relevant authority to visit the area and get to the root of the killings, insisting that the situation must be brought under control immediately to prevent further degeneration.
Echocho, therefore charged the relevant authority to arrest those involved in the killings and made them to face the full weight of the law.
According to the him, while the investigation is ongoing, the machinery for dialogue, reconciliation and confidence building should be vigorously pursued by the Peace Building Agency.
Echocho, while commiserating with the families of those killed, he said all citizens must be security conscious and avoid any conduct that would jeopardise peaceful coexistence in the state.
The lawmaker therefore urged the government and the security agencies, which have the mandatory constitutional responsibility of securing lives and property, to secure and protect law-abiding citizens and community of Ogojeju Odo and bring the culprits to justice.
