Senate Urges Federal Govt to Name FCE Okene After Late Ohinoyi of Ebira Land

The Senate has urged the Federal Government to immortalise the late Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, Dr Abdulrahman Ado Ibrahim by naming the Federal College of Education Okene after him.

The Senate’s resolution followed a motion sponsored by the Senator representing Kogi Central, Senatorial District, Sen. Natasha Uduaghan during plenary.

The upper chamber also resolved to send a condolence letter to commiserate with the family and people of Ebiraland while a minute silence was observed in honour of the late traditional ruler.

The Lawmaker while moving the motion, said that Ado Ibrahim was born on Feb. 7, 1929 and attended both western nursery and Quranic schools.

“He went on to conclude his primary education in 1940 at the Native Authority (NA) Primary School in Okene in the then Kwara State.

“He began his secondary school education at Ondo Boys High School and later moved to Oduduwa College, where he graduated in 1949.

“In 1954, he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the prestigious London School of Economics, a Bachalor Degree in Mining Engineering from the University of Jos and a Master’s Degree from Harvard Business School in the year 1959.”

The lawmaker recalled that since the late Ado Ibrahim ascended the throne on June 2, 1997 as Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, His Majesty proved to be

a veritable bridge-builder, peacemaker and a social scientist.

“Before ascending the throne, Ado Ibrahim was a very successful businessman, He established Nestle Nigeria Limited and became the founding Chairman.”

Seconding the motion, Sen. Sunday Karimi of Kogi West said the late traditional ruler was a great personality who was there for not just the people of Kogi Central, Kogi State but for all Nigerians.

Also contributing to the motion, the Senator representing Kogi East Senatorial District, Sen. Jibrin Isah-Echocho said that the late Ado Ibrahim was a unifier and a father to all.

“It’s a great vacuum, a vacuum that may not be filled in the nearest future”.

In his remarks, President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio said that the late Ohinoyi was one of the illustrious sons that Nigeria produced..
