The Senate will today (Wednesday) confirm the appointments of the Chief of Defence Staff, Lt.-General Olufemi Oluyede, and the newly appointed Service Chiefs.
This follows Tuesday’s plenary session during which Senate President Godswill Akpabio read two separate letters from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu requesting the confirmation of the appointments in accordance with Section 18(1) of the Armed Forces Act, Cap A20, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
In the letters, President Tinubu urged the Senate to give the nominations expeditious consideration. Following the reading of the letters, Senator Akpabio referred the requests to the Committee of the Whole and scheduled the screening and confirmation for today.
It will be recalled that President Tinubu on Sunday appointed Lt.-General Olufemi Oluyede, former Chief of Army Staff, as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa.
Also appointed were Major-General Waidi Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff.
