In view of the present insecurity bedeviling the Country, Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf has appealed to the State Commissioner of Police and Heads of other security agencies to provide armed officers to guard the assembly complex, before, during and after sitting.

The Speaker made the appeal in Lokoja during house plenary on Wednesday.

According to him, this move has become paramount because politically exposed personalities are the primary targets of these dare devil criminals.

The Speaker therefore directed the Clerk of the House to communicate the appropriate authorities for prompt action.

“In view of recent security challenges in our Country and also our dear state, it is important that we beef up security here at the Assembly Complex during and after sittings.

“The officers here in Kogi Assembly are not armed, and this calls for concern. If they cannot provide the assembly with armed security personnel during and after sitting, they should be withdrawn” he stated.

The House in a voice vote unanimously supported the Speaker’s motion.
