The Ogori Descendants’ Union (ODU), has expressed deep concern over recent kidnap incidents along the Ageva–Magongo Road.

It noted with concern that the route, once a dependable link for work, trade, and family life, has become a source of fear for residents and commuters, especially those traveling to the south west.

“Our people are anxious, and the daily reality of travelling this road has become a burden no community should bear,” said Dr. Gabriel Aiso, President of ODU in a statement.

“We cannot stand by while innocent citizens are exposed to danger”, he further said.

Recent reports of abductions, kidnappings, and armed attacks have disrupted normal life and shaken public confidence.

He noted in the statement that families, business owners, and transport operators now face uncertainty each time they set out on this essential route.

Dr Aiso emphasised the need for swift intervention: “We are calling on the Kogi State Government and all relevant security agencies to act without delay. The protection of lives and property is a shared responsibility, and this situation demands immediate attention.”

The Union further urged for the deployment of additional security personnel, consistent patrols, intelligence-driven operations, and the establishment of security checkpoints along the corridor 24/7.

Strengthening collaboration between security agencies and local communities, Dr. Aiso said should be a key priority.

“Local knowledge is invaluable,” Dr Aiso noted, adding that: “When security agencies work hand-in-hand with our communities, we can detect threats early and respond more effectively.”

He reaffirmed the community’s desire for peace and normalcy: “Our people simply want to go about their daily activities without fear. We believe that with decisive action, safety can be restored and confidence rebuilt.”

He assured that the Ogori Descendants’ Union stands ready to support all efforts aimed at safeguarding the lives and livelihoods of the people.
