The National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) Nigeria has called for urgent action to close gender gaps and empower women in the country.
Speaking at the 2025 International Women’s Day symposium, NCWS National President, Princess Edna Azura, urged stakeholders to intensify efforts toward gender equality.
She highlighted key issues such as limited education and economic opportunities, gender-based violence, and underrepresentation in leadership, noting a gap between policy and implementation.
Princess Azura praised First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiative for supporting women through agricultural programs, ICT training, disability support, and distributing 370,000 cartons of sanitary pads to young girls.
NCWS announced financial support for small-scale women entrepreneurs and called for greater investment in education, skills development, and economic inclusion.
Princess Azura urged the adoption of the World Bank’s 2024-2030 gender strategy to address gender-based violence, expand economic opportunities, and boost women’s leadership.
She appreciated COSROPIN’s support and called on all stakeholders to work together in advancing gender equality in Nigeria.
Other speakers at the event emphasized the need for more investments in education, financial inclusion, and leadership development to empower women nationwide.
