NAWOJ Honours Deputy Director News, Radio Kogi

Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Zone D, has honoured nineteen of its former leaders for their outstanding contributions to the growth of journalism.

Those honoured are: the Deputy Director News and Current Affairs Department, Radio Kogi, Comrade Habibatullah Onakpa Abdallah,  Mrs Ese Ekama-Williams, Assistant-Editor-In-Chief News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Abuja among others.

The recognition was part of the activities lined up for the 2025 conference of NAWOJ Zone D which held in Abuja.

The NAWOJ Zone D comprises all the states in the North-Central geo-political zone which includes Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau and Federal Capital Territory.

Vice President, NAWOJ Zone D, Mrs Chizoba Ogbeche, while highlighting on the roles of some of the recipients, said that Comrade Habibatullah Onakpa Abdallah’ contributions as vice president marked a significant era in the history of female journalists in the zone.

Ogbeche said, as a respected journalist and leader, Comrade Habibatullah demonstrated excellence, integrity and passion, inspiring colleagues both in print and broadcast media to compete with their male counterparts.

On her part, Comrade Habibatullah who served as vice president in the year 2015, said that the award meant so much to her and spur her to do more if giving the opportunity.

She dedicated the award to God and the Radio Kogi family for their supports and prayers and pledged to continue to drive the course of NAWOJ, to better the lots of the society especially the women folk in the country.

Comrade Habibatullah called on young female journalists to develop interest in the affairs of the association, adding that it helps to provide the needed protection among other advantages.

The event with the theme: “Curbing Insecurity: The Role of Female Journalists in National Security” attracted female journalists from all the constituent states and other notable Nigerians.

Highlight of the occasion was the investiture of minister of state, FCT, Doctor Maria Mahmoud as metron of NAWOJ, FCT and presentation of award to the Director-General, Mariam Babangida Center for Women Development, Doctor Asabe Vilita Bashir.
