Kogi State Ministry of Justice has appealed to the people of Ogodo and Ikere Communities in Ajaokuta Local Government to embrace peace in the land matters between them.
The Director of Alternative Dispute Resolution in the Ministry, Alhassan Obansa Sani made the appeal during a fact finding visit to the disputed Oguro River.
Sani said the department was established by the present Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice to assist to reconcile conflicts instead of going to the Court.
The Director told people of both communities to see the reason to embrace peace and ensure amicable resolution, saying the matter is currently on reconciliation, negotiation and mediation level.
According to him, at the end of the negotiation process, the Committee in charge of Alternative Dispute Resolution will provide recommendations for both parties to work with as the committee cannot decide for them.
He maintained that the Committee which was constituted for people to ventilate their grievances without heading to the court is open to every matter.
Sani added that alternative dispute resolution will reduce cost and duration of using the Court to get justice, assuring of their commitment to be fair to all.
Representative of Ikere Clan, Prince Ahmed Bello and that of Ogodo, Alh. Alhassan Ahmed commended the timely intervention of the Committee.
