Kogi L-PRES Trains Health Workers on One-Health Approach

Health workers in Kogi State have been trained on one-health approach, a system aimed at catering for the wellbeing of humans, animals and the environment.

 

The training was organised by Kogi State Coordinating Office of Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (Kogi L-PRES) in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

The two day training workshop which had in attendance, Veterinary and Medical Doctors as well as Environment Health Officers, is aimed at promoting human and safe livestock.

 

Commissioner of Agriculture, Hon. Timothy Ojoma in a message to the ceremony said the training is a calculated attempt towards preparing Health Workers against resolving health challenges on human, animals and the environment.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alh. Abdulsalam Sagir called on relevant stakeholders to collaborate to ensure improved livestock farming in the State.

 

The Commissioner expressed optimism that the workshop will add value to the farming of Livestock, reiterating the commitment of government to training and restraining health workers.

 

The State Project Coordinator of Kogi L-PRES, Otaru Abdulkabir Onoroiza, stated that the one health is aimed at promoting the wellbeing of humans, animals and environmental health.

 

According to Otaru, the training was to intimate the participants on their responsibility, saying the One Health Approach is the first in Kogi State.

 

“Now the emphasis is not just for food security, we are now talking about food safety and security. Whatever you are consuming, whatever you are taking to the market, whatever you are exporting, we will ensure that there is a high level of safety.

 

He used the occasion to express gratitude to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for appointing him as State Project Coordinator of L-PRES, promising to build on the legacies of his Predecessor.

 

Otaru reiterated his readiness to partner with relevant stakeholders in a bid to develop livestock farming in the State.

 

The SPC also commended the National Coordinator of L-PRES, Abubakar Sanusi and other Experts in charge of the Project for their support to the success of the Project in Kogi.
