Kogi State First Lady, Hajia Sefinat Ododo has distributed safe delivery kits to 2000 pregnant women free off charge in Kogi Central senatorial district.
The women were also empowered with cash donations.
The first lady said the government of Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo was committed to providing quality healthcare free especially to women and children who are the most vulnerable in the society.
Presenting the items and cash to the women, Hajia Sefinatu called on them to make the best use of the facility to ensure safe delivery.
The first lady who was on Wednesday at Hajia Hauwau Oziohu Bello Memorial Hospital, Upogoro, expressed delight over what she described as tremendous increase in pregnant women attending pre- and post-natal clinics across the state.
The wife of the Commissioner for Justice, Princess Karimat Abdullahi charged the women to embrace family planning.
She said the appeal for women to give birth to children they could cater for became necessary to avoid harsh economic consequences.
At the General Hospital, Iruvochinomi, the first lady who was represented by the wife of the State House of Assembly Speaker, Hajia Zainab Umar noted that the administration of governor Ahmed Ododo has placed greater emphasis on women empowerment and health.
She noted that the delivery of the kits was meant to encourage them to attend antenatal clinics and also to deliver their babies in the hospital.
One of the pregnant women, Mrs Maryam Audu expressed gratitude for the free antenatal care and delivery services provided by the first lady.
She posited that the beneficiaries of the governor’s wife gesture will continue to pray for the success of the present administration.
