Participants at the ongoing five-day workshop on Maternal and Neo-natal Mortality Reduction Innovation and Initiative (MAMII) have been urged to work towards ensuring the state benefits maximally from the initiative.
Commissioner of Health, Doctor Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza made this known while declaring the workshop open in Lokoja.
Doctor Adeiza said everyone is a stakeholder on health issues and called for concerted efforts at ensuring that healthcare is advanced in the state.
He commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for making healthcare a priority in the state.
According to him, the Governor’s efforts have ensured that all Local Government Areas in the state are equipped with state of the art ambulances in order to bring maternal mortality to the barest minimum.
The Commissioner noted that the ultimate aim is to see that the country no longer retains the second position in the MAMII programme.
The Leader of the Maternal and Neo-natal Mortality Reduction Innovation and Initiative, Doctor Dayo Adeyanju explained that the present administration has decided to tackle maternal mortality headlong through a multi-sector approach.
In his remarks, the Kogi State SWAP Desk Officer, Doctor Emmanuel Bala Jonah identified thematic areas to include, providing overview of MAMII for effective execution, conducting deep-due visits to communities to uncover barriers, creating state context and ascertaining commitment from the state towards effective execution of MAMII interventions.
Highlight of the event was the visitation of some communities in Lokoja Local Government AREA for on the spot assessment.
