Kogi Attorney‑General and Commissioner For Justice Calls For An End To  Gender-Based Violence

Kogi State Attorney‑General and Commissioner for Justice, Muizudeen Abdullahi, has called on residents to shun oppression in every form, as examplified by Prophet Muhammad.

Justice, Muizudeen made the call at a five-day step down training organized by DIWA and DA’AWAH Institute aimed at addressing gender -based violence awareness in Lokoja.

Justice Muizudeen appreciated the organizers for looking into gender based violence, saying that the state’s Gender‑Based Violence Department views the fight against any form of abuse as a government responsibility.

The Commissioner emphasized that violence is not limited to women alone, men and children can also be victims, stressing that even children could oppress older adults.

Justice Muizudeen, who pledged the commitment of the present administration of Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo to sustaining the campaign to a larger platform, urged Muslims to continue to follow the compassionate path shown by Prophet Muhammad.

Ustaz Abdulmalik thanked participants and stakeholders of the Kogi Training‑of‑Trainers (TOT) program for a good job.

He explained that the trainers had been trained in a recent workshop in Mina, with the aim of cascading the knowledge to religious and community leaders, positioning them as gatekeepers in the fight against gender‑based violence.

He stressed that women are vital in Islam and must be free to contribute socially, economically and emotionally.

Through “Sharia intelligence,” trainees were equipped with Islamic legal insights that promote equal opportunities for women rather than confinement. The project, coordinated by the DIWA DA’AWAH Institute, is being rolled out in Lokoja as a step‑down training aimed at fostering social‑behavioral change”.

The Director General, Kogi State Broadcasting Corporation, Princess Nana Hauwa Yussuff
who was represented by the the Director of Commercial Services, Mallam Labaran Baba Aminu explained that gender based violence should be discouraged in its totality and promised Radio’s support for all their programmes.

The Chairman, Kogi State Chapter of Jamaatul Nasril Islam, JNI, Ambassador Usman Bello described the training on gender based violence as a way of helping humanity stressing that Islam frowns at all forms of violence qnd promised JNI’s support to organizations ready to counter the negative narratives about Islam.

The Administrative Secretary of Council of Ulamau Alhaji, Idris Babango appreciated the organizers of the program for the efforts at curbing the menace of gender based violence promised their support.

Alhaji Babango explained that the issues of gender based violence is increasing on daily bases hence the need to intensify efforts to curb it.

One of the participants Doctor Hadiya Ismail appreciated the organizers for the opportunity to be armed with tools to fight gender based violence and create safer place.

The training highlighted physical, economic and emotional abuse, as well as the denial of female education and the marginalisation of women the practices Ustaz Abdulmalik called extremist and contrary to Islamic values.
