The Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf has described children as the pride of the society who deserve to be celebrated.
He stated this in his message to celebrate the 2024 International Children Day as signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Yabagi Mohammed.
Rt Hon Umar said children deserve to be protected through deliberate government policies that would protect their future, noting that as parents, policy makers and implementers understand this, hence the children friendly programmes being churned out by government.
According to the Speaker, the current administration is doing everything it can to ensure an assured future for Nigerian children, stressing that the educational policies of both federal and Kogi State government have so far demonstrated commitment to bequeathing a secured future for the children.
He assured the children that as the head Kogi State legislature, he would do everything within his powers to ensure that legislations that would further encourage programmes that would impact positively on their lives are given necessary attention.
“As a father, I am interested in ensuring a better future for the children because they are the ones that would take over from us after we may have left the stage. So, it is important that we put policies and programmes that would secure their future in place,” the Speaker stressed.
While enjoining parents and caregivers to ensure they give virtuous and sound upbringing to their wards, he noted that fear of God, hard work and commitment to building egalitarianism were important for a secured future for all.
