The Kogi State House of Assembly has screened and confirmed the immediate past State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Abdullahi Bello, as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
The confirmation followed a letter sent to the House by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, requesting his approval.
Bello’s appointment comes on the heels of a recent cabinet reshuffle that saw the former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barrister Ozigi Deedat, redeployed to the State Ministry of Works.
Confirming the appointee.during the Wednesday plenary, Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf, congratulated Bello on his appointment and urged him to justify the confidence reposed in him by delivering on his mandate.
The Speaker emphasized the need for effective supervision of Local Government administration and harmonious relationships with traditional rulers to promote peace and development across the state.
Speaking with journalists shortly after his confirmation, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello expressed gratitude to the governor and members of the Assembly for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to justify the trust by contributing to grassroots development and effective Local Government administration across the state.
The former APC Chairman also emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration between traditional institutions and Local Government authorities to ensure peace, stability, and sustainable development at the grassroots.
According to him, his experience in party leadership has equipped him with the necessary skills to foster unity and drive inclusive governance across all local councils in the state.
Alhaji Bello assured that his tenure would prioritize transparency, accountability, and responsiveness to the needs of the people, adding that he would work closely with relevant stakeholders to address challenges facing local governments and chieftaincy matters in Kogi State.
In a related development, the Assembly also screened and confirmed Alhaji Sani Salihu as a Permanent Member of the Kogi State House of Assembly Service Commission.
