The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reiterated that candidates are responsible for selecting their own examination towns for both the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and the optional Mock examination.
A statement by the JAMB’s Head of Public Affairs, Dr. Fabian Benjamin emphasized that the Board does not assign examination towns to candidates but only provides available options based on capacity. This clarification comes as 90% of available slots for the optional mock exam have been filled, leaving limited spaces in states such as Gombe, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Plateau, Sokoto, Taraba, and Yobe.
Dr. Benjamin urged candidates to make informed choices, considering travel logistics to avoid unnecessary difficulties on exam day. He also cautioned against blaming JAMB for self-imposed inconveniences, as the Board ensures that selection remains open until a town reaches its capacity.
The optional mock examination is designed to familiarize candidates with the Computer-Based Test (CBT) format and assess the Board’s readiness, not to create undue logistical burdens. Candidates are advised to plan accordingly and select their examination towns wisely.
