The Executive Director of Participation Initiative for Behavioural Change and Development (PIBCID), Mrs. Remilekun Akande has called more more inclusion of women in the governance of Kogi State.
Mrs. Akande made the call during a Sensitization workshop for widows, market women and people with disabilities of Sarkin Noma organised in partnership with Nigerian Women Trust Fund to commemorate the International Women’s Day.
The Executive Director, who commended the State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo for appointing women in different positions at the State and Local Government levels, emphasized the need for more of the gesture.
According to her, it is pertinent for government to implement child rights act and Violence Against Persons law, while efforts should be geared towards addressing early child marriage.
She pointed out that the current economic challenges being faced in the country has made early child marriage on the increase.
Mrs. Akande called for aggressive Sensitization to educate parents especially mothers on the Child Right law in the state, describing it as a good way to enhance girl child education.
Mrs. Akande enjoined parents to speak out in the case of molestation against their children as fear of stigmatization will further worsen the situation.
Some of the women, Aisha Suleiman and Asebe Ahmed Garba expressed appreciation to PIBCID and Nigeria Women Trust Fund for the sensitization programme, describing the programme as an eye opener to strive and build the their homes no matter the nation’s challenge.
