Kogi State Commissioner for Transportation, Victor Atuluku has assured Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and major stakeholders in the transport sector of the seamless implementation of the reviewed Infrastructure Maintenance Levy (IML).
Atuluku gave the assurance in Lokoja while reacting to the directive made by Governor Ododo on the new policy.
He noted that there will be a meeting of major stakeholders in the transport sector to fine tune as well as strategize on the way to make the policy workable and beneficial to all stakeholders.
The Commissioner who noted that the transportation ministry has enjoyed cordial relationship with all transport unions in the State said the policy will further strengthen their bond, calling on them to comply with the new policy.
Atuluku explained that the ultimate motive behind the reviewed IML by the Governor Ododo-led administration is to improve State infrastructure and welfare of citizens, saying the policy is people -centred.
Deputy Director Administration and Logistics, Directorate of State Security Service (DSS) Lokoja, Peter Fashola called on the attention of stakeholders to the reckless attitude of some motorcycle riders on the highways.
Fashola recommended that there is urgent need for motorcycle riders to use reflective jackets of different colours depending on their operational zone while on duty, saying that will help in checking security risks.
On the reviewed Infrastructure Maintenance Levy newly implemented by the State Government, the DSS Deputy Director also recommended that security personnel be attached to union members at all points of collection to ensure strict compliance.
