The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reminded political parties of the need to adhere strictly to the approved schedule for conducting their primaries ahead of the Anambra State Governorship Election slated for Saturday, November 8, 2025.

A statement by the INEC National Commissioner & Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, said only 12 out of the 19 registered political parties have so far submitted detailed schedules for their primaries. The remaining seven parties were urged to do so immediately to avoid disruptions.

According to the statement, it was confirmed that party primaries will commence on March 20 and end on April 10.

“The Commission urged political parties to stick to their planned schedules to ensure smooth monitoring of the process” The statement noted.

The Commission emphasized that sudden changes in dates, venues, or modes of primaries create logistical challenges, adding unnecessary costs and disrupting workflow.

“Political parties were therefore encouraged to follow the agreed procedures to facilitate effective monitoring, in line with Section 84 of the Electoral Act 2022” the commission said.

INEC had earlier published the Notice of Election on November 13, 2024, in compliance with Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, ensuring that all electoral processes are conducted within the stipulated legal timeframe.
