The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has clarified that the process of delineating wards in Warri North, Warri South, and Warri South West Local Government Areas is still ongoing, and no final decision has been reached.

The clarification comes amid rising public speculation following a Supreme Court order mandating the exercise.

In a statement signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, the Commission explained that the delineation process stems from a Supreme Court judgement delivered on December 2, 2022.

Following the court ruling, INEC said it embarked on extensive consultations from February 2023 to July 2024, engaging critical stakeholders across the three local governments.

The process INEC noted included fieldwork across communities, culminating in the production of a draft report.

The Commission revealed that it held another round of consultations with stakeholders in Warri on Friday, April 4, 2025.

It said during the meeting, copies of the draft report were distributed to representatives of all parties concerned, providing them with an opportunity to review and raise any concerns emphasizing that the aim remains to reach an amicable agreement that will be endorsed by all sides.

“Contrary to speculations making the rounds, the Commission is yet to take a final decision on the delineation of Wards in the Warri Federal Constituency,” Olumekun stressed.

INEC called on representatives of all stakeholder groups to submit their observations on the draft report to aid further engagement. The Commission also appealed to all parties to maintain peace and security in the area.

Olumekun reaffirmed that INEC remains committed to fairness, equity, and the rule of law throughout the process.
