The newly elected National Chairman of the Forum of State Independent Electoral Commissions of Nigeria (FOSIECON), Mamman Nda Eri, was officially inaugurated on Friday, July 11th alongside other members of the forum’s executive council.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at a dinner of FOSIECON in Lagos ahead of Saturday’s Lagos State Local Government Elections.
FOSIECON, composed of heads of state electoral commissions across the country, serves as a key institution in promoting grassroots democracy through credible and transparent local government electoral processes.
Immediately after his inauguration, Eri stepped into active leadership by supervising the forum’s monitoring efforts during the Lagos Local Government Elections.
Following the polls, he led a FOSIECON delegation to deliver the forum’s official Observation Report to the Chairman of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), Justice Omobolanle Okikiolu-lghile.
The report evaluated the overall conduct of the elections, commending areas of strength while offering strategic recommendations for future improvements.
Eri’s tenure is expected to usher in heightened coordination and reform among Nigeria’s State Independent Electoral Commissions in response to growing calls for fairness, efficiency, and inclusive participation in grassroots democratic exercise.
