HAJIA FATIMA MOMOH CALLS FOR FIGHT AGAINST BULLYING AMONG STUDENTS

Kogi State joined other states across the country in commemorating this year’s Children’s Day with series of vibrant and colourful activity on Tuesday.

Every May 27, children is celebrated across Nigeria following the declaration by the United Nations recognizing the importance of promoting the rights and welfare of children globally

In a world where children face increasing social pressures and emotional challenges, the theme “Stand up, Speak up: Building a Bully-Free Generation” brought renewed focus to the need for safe spaces for children.

The Children’s Day celebration in Lokoja came as a timely reminder of society’s duty to protect its youngest members.

At the Muhammadu Buhari Civic Centre, parents, teachers, and key stakeholders converged to celebrate the day, showing their support for children’s right and the campaign for a bully-free generation.

Speaking during the event, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Fatimah Momoh, called for increased support for the well-being of children, emphasizing the need for a nurturing and protective environment for their growth and development.

Hajia Fatimah Momoh also appreciated the state government for its unwavering support towards child development and called on all stakeholders to work collectively to protect children against all forms of bullying.

Secretary to the Government of Kogi State, Doctor Folashade Arike Ayoade, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to safeguarding children’s rights and creating a safe, inclusive environment where every child can thrive without fear of bullying or discrimination.

She also advised parents to be responsible and steadfast in nurturing their children, emphasizing the vital role of the family in shaping respectful and confident individuals.

In a goodwill message, the Commissioner for Education, Mr. Wemi Jones, assured that the state’s educational programs will continue to promote inclusiveness, ensuring that no child will be left behind, regardless of background or ability.

He emphasized that education will remain a vital instrument for securing children’s well-being and safeguarding their rights and protection.

Eze Precious, a student of Government Girls Secondary School, expressed her joy at witnessing another Children’s Day celebration and expressed hope that all schools across the state will be free from bullying of every kind.

She called on government to continue to prioritize the protection and welfare of children.

The event showcased impressive parades by schools, rich cultural display, and a strong sense of unity among participating schools, stakeholders, and communities.

There was also rewards for best performing schools n the march past event of the celebration.

For the primary school category, police children school, Lokoja came first while Kingdom Heritage Model school, Lokoja and Saint Peter’s LGA primary school came second and third respectively.

The secondary category saw Army Day Secondary school, Lokoja coming first with Crowther Memorial College, Lokoja and Eagles Academy, Lokoja coming second and third.
