Gunmen at the early hours of Wednesday killed three police officers at a checkpoint in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area.
According to an eyewitness, the incident occured between six and seven o’clock in the morning on Wednesday.
Confirming the incident, the Kogi State Police Command said the killing occurred at a border checkpoint in Egbe between Kogi and Kwara States.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya noted that the assailants stormed the checkpoint, engaging the officers in a fierce gun battle before escaping with their rifles.
SP Aya, described the attack as a deadly ambush on the officers, noting that the State Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, has deployed a tactical team to the area, with operatives now on the trail of the gunmen.
