Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo has condoled with the Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engr. Bashir Abubakar Gegu, over the death of his father Imam Abubakar Umar Gegu who died at his home town in Gegu-Beki, Kogi Local Government Area on Wednesday and has since buried according to Islamic rites.
Governor Ododo who paid a condolence visit to the family of the Commissioner sympathized with Honourable Bashir Gegu and the people of Gegu-Beki for the loss of a patriarch whom he described as an an irreplaceable father to the family, Gegu-Beki community and the entire State.
The Governor noted that the late community leader lived a peaceful, impactful and fulfilled life.
“The last time I came here, Baba prayed for me and gave me only one advice which is that I should continue to serve humanity. Little did I know those words were his last words to me. Baba lived a selfless life and what we can do for him now that he is no more is to continue to pray for him.
“Baba is no more but he left a legacy that we will continue to build on and that is the legacy of unity and peace among all our people. By the special grace of God, the Government of Kogi State will not turn her back on the family and the entire community”, the Governor said.
He urged the people of Gegu-Beki to remain united and supportive of his administration stating that the people of the state must come together in peace and unity to move Kogi State forward.
In his response on behalf of the family, Pharmacist Zakari Abubakar, elder brother to Honourable Bashir Abubakar Gegu thanked the Governor for finding time out of his very busy schedule to visit their family and community to sympathize with them.
He noted their late father was passionate about education and ensured that all his children were educated and for that alone they will remain grateful for the life and legacies of their late father.
Governor Ododo also visited His Royal Highness, Muhammad Abba Alhassan, the Nyiwo of Gegu-Beki in his palace to condole with the Royal father and paramount ruler of the community.
