Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has commissioned 80 revitalised Primary Health Care PHC, centres across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.
At the ceremony in Lokoja, Governor Ododo said, the inauguration of the facilities was a monumental achievement, describing it as a boost to the state’s healthcare advancement.
He urged the communities to safeguard the facilities against vandalism to ensure their sustainability promising to introduce a monitoring mechanism to track service delivery, drug dispensation across PHC centres in the state.
The Governor also rewarded outstanding personnel in the Primary Healthcare PHC sector with cash prizes as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery across the state
Governor Ododo later handed over medical equipment and commodities donated by the Federal Ministry of Health and other development partners and subsequently commissioned the revitalised prototype PHC at the Old Market area in Lokoja.

In a remark, Executive Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency NPHCDA, Dr. Muyi Aina commended Governor Ododo for his visionary leadership and expansion of the state’s health insurance scheme despite limited resources.
He lauded the quality and commitment of Kogi’s health workers and urged the governor to sustain the leadership challenge as a model for service excellence.
In an address the Executive Director, Kogi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Muazu Omeiza, described the event as a testament to the revolution of primary Health Care with a sense of responsibility, accountability and reward system.
He expressed appreciation to the world Bank Assisted project the IMPACT and National Primary Health Care Development Agency for making it possible
“these facilities now have staff quarters to ensure twenty four hours service, borehole for steady water supply,solar power and parameters fencing to secure the service provision environment and security post” He noted.
The Executive Director noted that by the grace of God maternal infants and child mortality will be drastically reduced with all these interventions.
Doctor Mauzu who promised to sustain periodic stakeholder’s meeting to sensitise the people on their roles urged them to take ownership of the projects.
Local Government Areas that have exemplified commitment and responsibility in taking ownership and sustainability approaches to Primary Health Care activities were identified and rewarded as well as some dedicated staff.
