Kogi State Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo has reiterated his administrations Commitment at ensuring peace in Bagana and Environs.
Governor Ododo made this known while inspecting the areas that were affected during the crisis at Bagana in Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State
Bagana community was well known as the commercial hub of the people of Omala Local Government because of its proximity to the River Benue which serves as a transborder business haven.
The Community was among the last community which practiced trade by barter, a system of buying and selling in the olden days.
But due to ethnic differences, farmers herders clashes and other remote differences, the hitherto heterogenous but peaceful community, became a theatre of war
Governor Ododo said the purpose of his visit to Bagana is to confirm the information reaching his office that peace has gradually returned to all the troubled zones in Omala.
“The last I came here about six months ago I went back with tears because of the level of damage of property and live ,am happy today the youth and women can smile” the Governor said.
While addressing the people of Bagana, Governor Ododo urged them not to allow themselves to be used by selfish politician who doesn’t want peace to return to the land.
He noted that Bagana market is the only market that brings the poor together to practice trade by bartar.
Governor Ododo promised not to fold his hands and allowed evil men destroy the land and advised them to always give useful information to security agents to assist them in carrying out their duty.
The Governor also commended the efforts of security agents for the ways and manner they have secured the area since the crisis started.
He said because of their dedication in curbing the crisis the people of Bagana can now go about their normal activities and promised not to relent in supporting their cause which is to maintain peace and order.
Responding the Chairman of Omala Local Government Mr Mark Edibo appreciated the governor for his quick response to cushion the effects of the crisis in Bagana and Environs.
Mr Edibo appealed for the rehabilitation of the township road that link the Community to about four state to enhance investment and other benefits.
A resident of Bagana, Apostle Peter Simeon who spoke on behalf of others also thanked the state Government for their quick intervention which has brought life back to the community.
He appealed to the state governor to help rehabilitate some of the property that was destroyed during the crisis which includes Bagana General hospital,Bagana market and other property .
