The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed an explosion at the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) facility in Kaduna, which claimed one life and left several others injured on Saturday morning.
A statement by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau said the incident occurred on 20 September during the destruction of expired ordnance materials, including Ammonia Nitrates, Primer Caps, Propellants, and other hazardous substances.
The DHQ disclosed that the injured personnel are currently receiving medical care at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna.
Reacting to the development, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, extended condolences to the family and friends of the deceased while wishing the injured a quick recovery.
The Defence Headquarters assured members of the public that the situation is under control and emphasized that the surrounding community faces no threat.
According to the statement, DICON continues to uphold strict operational safety standards and has launched a thorough investigation to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
