Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has been honored by Kogi State Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria with National Safety Award and Nigeria Ambassador of Safety.
Governor Ododo who was represented by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Muizudeen Yunus Abdullahi was presented with the award by the National President of ISPON, Doctor Udeze Stephen.
The occasion which featured the induction of New members also featured the election of executives to run the affairs of the institute for two years.
Those who emerged as officials include Elder Friday Sani, Chairman, Juliana Kolawole, Vice Chairman, Michael Ojumu, Secretary, Momoh Rilwanu, Financial Secretary, Mudi Amos PRO, Abdulrasheed Nasir, Welfare Officer and Muhammed Salihu, Treasurer.
In his acceptance speech, the State Chairman of ISPON, Elder Friday Sani promised to carry every member of the institute along in the scheme of things saying that the institute for all members.
Elder Sani praised Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his support which ensured the inauguration of the State ISPON.
The ceremony featured inauguration and induction of New member performed by the National President of ISPON, Doctor Udeze Stephen,who charged members to place the safety and well-being of the public at the center of their professional responsibilities.
He emphasized the critical role safety professionals play in safeguarding lives and property across the country.
Doctor Udeze noted that the institute, founded in 1980, initially focused on safety practices within the oil and gas sector and select manufacturing industries.
According to him, with the enactment of the ISPON Act in May 2014, the institute was formally established as a government-recognized and regulated professional body.
He noted that only individuals whose names appear on the institute’s official membership register are legally recognized as safety professionals in Nigeria.
Doctor Udeze called on all members to unite and work collectively to advance safety standards in Kogi State and Nigeria at large.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo in a message highlighted the indispensable role of safety professionals in a world confronted with industrial hazards, road accidents, environmental risks, and emerging threats.
Represented by the Kogi State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Muizudeen Yunus Abdullahi, the governor described safety practitioners as “architects of prevention, sentinels of compliance, and the vanguard against calamity.
He said the inauguration serves as a call to elevate safety standards and foster an environment where every citizen can live and work without fear.
Also speaking, the Chairman House Committee on Safety Standards and Regulations, Mr David Idris Zacharia, reaffirmed the National Assembly’s commitment to enacting and supporting legislation that guarantees a safer Nigeria.
Mr David Idris Zacharia who is the member representing Idah Federal Constituency promised to support the State chapter of ISPON to succeed and congratulated Elder Friday Sani and his team for their emergence as pioneer officials of the institute in Kogi State.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of safety awards to other distinguished individuals whose contributions have significantly enhanced the protection of lives and property across Kogi State.
