The Clan Head of Akuba Two in Bassa Local Government Areas, Chief Denda Sigidi has urged farmers in the area to avoid clashes with herders.
Chief Denda who is also a third Class Traditional made the appeal at this year’s Get Together of the Forum of Gagos in Akuba Two at his Palace in Odenyi, Bassa Local Government Area.
Chief Denda said the call became necessary to reduce farmers and herders clashes in the area.
He advised farmers to report any misunderstanding between them and herders to their traditional ruler who will handle the dispute amicably.
“We must work together to ensure that our people must not engage in any fight with Fulani cattle rearers in our land. We should promptly call their attention whenever they destroy any farm for amicable resolution. In this way clashes with them will be greatly reduced” Chief Denda stated.
The traditional ruler explained that it is only when such misunderstandings could not be resolved by the traditional rulers that the law enforcement agencies could be contacted for necessary action.
Chief Denda who enjoined people of the area to sustain the existing peaceful co-existence said no society can develop in the atmosphere of rancour and acrimony.
The Chairman of the Forum of Gagos and the Gago of Tetengwu, Chief Samuel Duya called for more harmony, love and cooperation among the people of the area and urged the people to shun divisive tendencies.
Similarly, the vice Chairman of the forum and Gago of Agodo, Chief Emmanuel Jimba enjoined the people to continue to promote brotherliness and unite to enhance the development of the area.
In his remark, the Madaki of Agodo, Chief Emmanuel Gwatana cautioned cashew farmers to desist from stealing the farm produce from the farms as the season of cashew harvesting is around the corner.
He advised cashew farmers to always report any cases of theft to the traditional ruler in their communities to enhance amicable resolution and peace in the area.
