The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has announced that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is fully set for its 8th National Convention scheduled to commence this weekend in Abuja.
Addressing journalists during a world media briefing in the Federal Capital Territory on Thursday, the minister said the ruling party has concluded all necessary preparations to ensure the convention is conducted smoothly, transparently and in line with democratic standards.

He explained that the convention, themed “Unity in Progress, Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,” reflects the party’s resolve to strengthen internal cohesion while advancing its broader development vision for the country.
According to Idris, the theme also highlights the APC’s effort to align its internal leadership structure with the governance priorities of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The minister noted that the party has consistently demonstrated stability and organisational discipline in handling leadership transitions, describing the forthcoming convention as another opportunity to reinforce its democratic culture.
He further stated that the gathering would provide a platform for party leaders to review the achievements of the Tinubu administration and deepen support for the Renewed Hope Agenda within the party.
Idris assured Nigerians as well as members of the international community that the convention would uphold the highest democratic principles, emphasizing that the APC remains committed to unity, inclusiveness and responsible leadership.
More than 8,000 delegates drawn from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory are expected to participate in the convention, which will feature policy discussions, leadership elections and the emergence of new national party executives.
The event will take place at the Eagle Square from Friday, March 27 to Saturday, March 28, 2026, with party stakeholders expressing optimism about a peaceful and successful convention
