An aspirant for the position of National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Paul Oyiborume Yovwe, has called for clarification regarding access to the party’s nomination forms ahead of its forthcoming national convention.
Yovwe, who addressed journalists in Abuja, said he had followed the party’s guidelines and paid the required fee for the Expression of Interest and Nomination Form after obtaining the necessary bank teller.
According to him, after completing the payment process, he proceeded to the party’s financial department to convert the bank teller to an official receipt, which is usually required before obtaining the nomination form.
He stated that while waiting to complete the process, he was informed that the form for the position of National Secretary had already been associated with the incumbent office holder, Ajibola Basiru from Osun State, a development he said raised questions for him as an aspirant.
Yovwe noted that he had expected to be issued the form after fulfilling the payment requirements, stressing that the forthcoming convention scheduled for March 27 and 28 is meant to provide a platform for party members to freely contest for various offices.
The aspirant explained that his interest in the position was based on the understanding that the office of National Secretary is zoned to the southern region, adding that he believes the position could also be fairly considered within the South-South.
He further stated that he remains committed to the party’s constitution and internal democratic processes, noting that conventions are traditionally opportunities for delegates from across the country to decide on the party’s leadership.
Yovwe expressed hope that the situation would be clarified, emphasizing that aspirants should be allowed to obtain nomination forms and participate in the convention in accordance with the party’s established procedures.
