Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has emphasized the significance of achieving peace and unity in Bassa land, considering it as one of his administration’s major accomplishments over the past seven years.
Governor Bello stated this during a courtesy visit by stakeholders from Bassa Local Government Area at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Lokoja on Wednesday.
Governor Bello expressed pride in the prevailing peace and tranquility in Bassa, urging the community to uphold it for continued progress.
While acknowledging the people of Bassa for showcasing unity, togetherness, and progress, particularly in supporting the APC candidate, Ahmed Usman Ododo, during the November 11 governorship election, Governor Bello foresaw developmental strides in the region with the return of peace.
He assured of continuous support beyond his term, encouraging a united front for the overall development of Bassa.
Governor Bello advocated for the decision-making power on socio-economic development in Bassa local government area to lie with the people of Bassa.
He suggested collaboration among the three districts – Bassange, Bassa Kwomu, and Mozum – to decide their representation in the next administration, starting from the Local Government administrator.
Earlier, the Governor-elect, Ahmed Usman Ododo commended Governor Bello for fostering unprecedented peace and unity during the election.
He praised the commitment, sincerity, and patriotism displayed by the people of Bassa, assuring them of benefits from their support to both the current and next administration.
He thanked Bassa people for their collaborative spirit in ensuring APC’s victory and assured that the people will benefit from their support to the current administration and the next one.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Barrister Felix Gimba said the victory of APC in Bassa in the recently concluded governorship election was as a result of team work and cooperation that existed amongst the three districts in the area.
He disclosed that their mission was to congratulate governor Yahaya Bello and governor-elect, Ahmed Usman Ododo while pledging their loyalty and support to the next administration.
The group also appealed to the governor-elect to address infrastructure deficit in Bassa land.
Chairman of Bassa Local Government, Muktar Shaibu, lauded Governor Bello’s dedication to Kogi State’s development and his leadership of inclusivity.
He considered the outcome of the November 11 governorship election in Bassa as a reflection of the honesty, loyalty, and commitment of the people.
In their separate remarks on behalf of Bassange, Mozum, and Bassa Kwomu, Umar Adakeke, Engr Usman Muhammed, and Bako Shigaba, respectively, said the visit to congratulate the Governor on the triumph of the APC in the November 11 governorship election.
They commended Governor Bello for his fair and just distribution of infrastructure and resources, expressing gratitude for the approval of the ongoing multi-million-naira Oguma-Sheria bridge, overlooked by previous administrations.
Former Special Adviser Jacob Edi commended the governor for leaving a legacy as the father of modern Kogi State which will ensure prosperity, unity, and peace for the entire state.
