Accountability, Sustainability, Social Justice Key to Nation Building – University Don

A Professor of Accounting & Taxation with Federal University Lokoja, Professor Emmanuel Eneche Onoja says accountability Sustainability and Social Justice are panacea for nation building.

Professor Onoja stated this at the twenty third Inaugural Lecture of the University held at the Adankolo Campus in Lokoja.

The twenty third Inaugural Lecture is the twenty first in the series under the current Vice Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi with the theme “Accountability, Sustainability and Social Justice: Catalyst For Nation Building.”

Professor Onoja in his presentation said Nigeria can only be a better place when Leaders at all levels give account of their stewardship and are responsible to the people.

According to him, Public Officers who refuse to account to the people should be made to face the full weight of the law.

He identified Freedom of Information, equal rights and opportunity, equitable distribution of resources among others as key tools for building an egalitarian society.

While calling on Nigerians to be united against all forms of injustices, Professor Onoja urged Kogi State Government to scrap taxes on produce to reduce the cost of food.

On the Tax reforms Bills, the University Don applauded the move but stressed the need for dialogue and removal of gray areas.

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi described Professor Onoja as one of the finest Professors of the Institution, adding that the theme was timely.

Secretary to the Government of Kogi State, Mrs. Folashade Ayoade, State Security Adviser, retired Commander Jerry Omodara, State Head of Service, Mr. Elijah Evinemi and other top functionaries attended the Lecture.
