A National Health Fellow, Kaku Theophilus Takes Hand washing And Hygiene Campaign To Bassa LG

A National Health Fellow, Mr. Kaku Theophilus, says plans are underway to begin handwashing and hygiene campaign in Bassa communities of Kogi State.

Speaking ahead of the exercise, Mr. Kaku said the project is aimed at reducing preventable diseases by promoting regular handwashing and teaching participants how to produce alcohol-based sanitizers and liquid soap.

“The project aims to reduce preventable diseases by promoting regular hand washing and teaching participants how to produce alcohol-based sanitizers and liquid soap. This campaign is expected to start from 22nd of September to 14th October, 2025”

“The campaign is targeting healthcare workers and secondary school students. Health staff are expected to pass the message to their patients, while students will take the knowledge home to their families”

“Proper hand washing can cut diarrheal diseases by nearly 50 percent and respiratory infections by 25 percent. Experts say this makes it one of the most effective and affordable ways to protect community health” Mr Kaku Theophilus stated.

Mr Kaku Theophilus explained that the project is important not only for improving hygiene but also for empowering people to make sanitizers and soaps for personal use or as a source of income.

Support from partners and organizations is being sought to provide training materials and resources to strengthen the impact of the campaign in Bassa.

He noted that the awareness is targeting healthcare workers and secondary school students, urging health staff to get the message across to their patients, while students are expected to take the knowledge to their families.

The National Health Fellow maintained that proper handwashing can cut diarrheal diseases by nearly fifty percent and respiratory infections by twenty five percent.

Mr. Kaku explained that the project is important not only for improving hygiene but also for empowering people to make sanitizers and soaps for personal use or as a source of income.
