The Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf has charged farmers on the need to take measures that would improve their productivity and ensure food security for Nigerians.

A press statement signed and made available to the media by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Yabagi Mohammed said the Speaker stated this on Tuesday when he played host to the leadership of the Akpami-Oba Farm Cluster Farmers Cooperative in Lokoja.

According to the statement, the Speaker who described himself as an active farmer said the current situation has made it important for farmers across the state to work assiduously to ensure food sufficiency for the population.

Rt Hon Umar therefore promised to ensure support for the group that would ensure improved yield for members and ensure there is enough food for both subsistence and commercial purposes.

Earlier in their address, the leadership and members of the group had highlighted the availability of land for their cluster to farm, and appealed to government to support them in various ways to ensure they record bumper harvest.
