The Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf has congratulated the state Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo over his victory at the Appeal Court which has affirmed the judgement of the election petition tribunal.

The speaker described the judgement as a testament to the fact that the people of the state overwhelmingly supported and voted for the ruling APC in the November 11, 2023 governorship poll.

According to the statement, the speaker said the Governor has, in the last seven months, justified why the ruling party supported him from the primaries to the election proper with the developmental strides he has brought to the state since his assumption of office.

The Speaker noted that the state is experiencing a breath of fresh air across sectors and senatorial districts, stressing the need for the people of the state to continue to rally round the current administration.

In his words, “We all saw how, against all odds, the people defied all efforts to divide the state using ethnicity, tribe and other unimportant tactics and went for the person they believe would bring progress to the state as we are seeing.

“Governor Ododo has operated an open door government so far, attracting development and taking care of the state’s human resources through adequate attention to the needs of our civil servants while also addressing other developmental challenges.”

While calling on the opposition in the state to close ranks and work together with the government, Rt Hon Umar enjoined them to consider the interest of the entire state above personal ones.

“It is our collective responsibility as a people to put our heads together and not allow any personal thoughts to dictate to us and let good conscience be our guide for the sake of our future and the future of our children,” the speaker stressed.
