Vice Chancellor Federal University Lokoja, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi has appealed for more support and collaboration from individuals, organization and governmental bodies to help expand and enhance the university’s newly established zoo and conservatory.
Professor Akinwumi made the appeal in his speech at the Inauguration of the Federal University Lokoja Zoo and conservatory in Lokoja.
The vice Chancellor who appreciated the contributions of several key personalities and organizations for donating generously towards the project praised the staff for their hard work and dedication that led to the successful completion of the project.
He said the zoo and conservatory will serve as an educational resource, providing a living laboratory for students and researchers in the fields of environmental science and wild life management.
Professor Akinwumi maintained that the Zoo and conservatory will protect and preserve endangered species and their Habibat by creating a safe haven for various animals.
The Vice Chancellor also said it will serve as a recreational and educational facility for the people of Lokoja and it’s environs as well as creating a space for families tourists and wild life enthusiasts to learn and appreciate the richness of Nigeria,s national heritage.
He commended the conservator General of the National Park Service, Doctor Ibrahim Musa Goni for honouring their invite to commission the project.
Professor Akinwumi added that , with the commissioning,the zoo is now open to the public for the purposes of entertainment, education, and tourism.
Earlier while inaugurating the Zoo the Conservator General, Doctor, Ibrahim Musa Goni praised the University for the initiative and assured of the support of the National Park Service.
