Confluence Rice To Return To Nigerian Market Soon – Kogi Agric Commissioner

Kogi State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Timothy Ojomah says the present administration is making efforts to ensure that the State eats what it produces.

Mr. Ojomah stated this on this week’s edition of State of Kogi, a Radio Kogi Audience Participatory programme.

The Commissioner of Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Timothy Ojomah says the Governor has walked the talk as tractors have been distributed across the twenty one Local Government Areas of the State to enhance farming.

According to Mr. Ojomah the wet season farming flagged off recently by Governor Ododo at Geregu, Ajaokuta Local Government Area is one of the moves by the Government to revive the all important sector.

The Commissioner emphasized the need for the people of the State to return to farm as measures have been put in place to safeguard the farmlands.

He pointed out that the just concluded registration of farmers across the State was targeted at enhancing adequate data collection and planning for the sector.

Mr. Ojomah added that the Omi Rice mill will soon commence production of rice, saying the name “Confluence Rice” will be sustained.

According to World Food Programme, due to conflict and insecurity, rising inflation and the impact of the climate change, about twenty six point five million people across Nigeria are projected to face acute hunger in the June-August 2024 lean season.

Upon assumption of office, one of the sectors that received attention of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo is the Agriculture sector where he held a meeting at the Government, Lokoja.
