Kogi State Multi-Door Court House Bill Passes Second Reading

A Bill for a Law to establish the Kogi State Multi-Door Court House and other matters connected therewith 2024 has passed second reading by the Kogi State House of Assembly.

Leading the debate on the floor of the House, sponsor of the Bill and Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Alhaji Umar Yusuf noted that the bill when passed will serve as an alternative dispute resolution mechanism.

Alhaji Umar said access to justice in conventional courts has become cumbersome and tedious hence the need for an alternative justice system which will hasten delivery of justice.

The Speaker pointed out that the bill when passed will reduce the workload in the conventional courts which is often characterized by protracted litigations which sometimes lead to loss of justice.

According to him, the bill seeks to make provision for the establishment of council with a Chairman to be appointed by the State Chief Judge and to be known as Kogi State Multi-Door Court House.

Alhaji Umar who noted that some states in the South West of Nigeria have domesticated such law called on his colleagues to give the bill speedy passage.

Seconding the Bill and member representing Olamaboro State Constituency, Anthony Ujah noted that with the passage of this bill disputes will easily and speedily be managed without the cumbersome court procedure.

Member representing Ogori Magongo, Ajaokuta, Ofu, Lokoja One, Bode Ogunmola, Jibril Abu, Amodu Sheidu, Bin-Ebaiya Tijani respectively all testified to the efficacy of the Bill in hastening justice delivery when passed.

In her submission, the deputy Speaker, Comfort Nwuchiola who presided over the sitting committed the bill to the committee on Judiciary, Justice and Legal Matters.

Similarly, a bill for a law to provide for the prevention of HIV and AIDS based Discrimination and Protection of the rights and dignity of people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS and for related matters 2024 has passed second reading.
