An Expert on Population a d Migration, Dr. Ayman Zohry has advocated regulation of irregular migration from the African Continent to Europe.

Dr. Zohry also said Africa is currently suffering from an imbalance population structure, which has led to brain drain in some professions such as Medical Doctors, Nurses, Engineers and Artisans, leaving the Continent for Greener pastures in Europe.

He stated this while speaking at the ongoing training for Young African Journalists holding in Cairo, Egypt.

According to him, the hunt for IT professionals and physician doctors particularly during the outbreak of COVID-19 have caused a lot of harm to the continent with shortage of these categories of persons.

Dr. Zohry pointed out that “the UK drained the medical sector in Ghana by hiring large number of physician doctors and nurses. This happened to Ghana and it is the same for even Libya. You can’t imagine that there is 1,200 Libyan physician doctors who are working in the UK.”

He explained that to overcome the challenge, Africa Leaders must invest in education and human capacity development as well as better welfare for Africans.

“40 per cent of the population of Africa are children under 15. They need someone to care for them and take care of them. We need to spend on education. So the quality of the formation of human capital is very low and this is actually the question that cannot be solved even after 30 or 40 years.
