Today is the twenty twenty-four International Women’s Day, a day set aside by the united nations to acknowledge and celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women around the worldwide.
The International Women Day usually commemorated on every March eight is a global observance dedicated to celebrate the success and achievements of women economically, socially and all spheres of life.
The first International Women’s Day was held by labor groups in North America and Europe at the turn of the 20th century, soon gaining recognition and power, and having an impact on women all around the world
Speaking on the importance of the day Secretary to Kogi State Government Mrs Folashade Ayoade Calls for More Support For The Womenfolk
Mrs Folashade explained that the day provides an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women around the world.
She noted that It also serves as a poignant reminder of the work that still needs to be done to address systemic barriers and discrimination that women encounter called on women to be dedicated to their work and upbringing of their children.
“When we inspire others to understand and value women’s inclusion, we forge a better world”
Mrs Folashade also urged women to take care of their mental health in view of the prevalent depression among women world wide.
Also speaking, the Chairperson NLC Women committee and Zonal Women Coordinator RATAWU North Central Comrade Habibat Umar Ibrahim said the theme for this year is apt because investing in women is actually accelerating progress both at the home front, offices and the society at large.
Comrade Habibat appealed to women to keep celebrating themselves while raising awareness about ongoing issues related to gender equality and women’s rights.
“And when women themselves are inspired to be included, there’s a sense of belonging, relevance, and empowerment”
In a statement to celebrate the day the Chairperson Kogi State chapter of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Mrs Stella Edoka explained that it is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women all over the world.
Mrs Edoka urged women to reflect on the progress made and the challenges that remain in achieving gender equity, embrace their diversity and inspire others in their various feilds of endeavor.
