Kogi Water Commissioner of Resources, Engineer Yahaya Farouk says water law is soon to be made operational in the state.
Engineer Yahaya made this known in his office while receiving members of the Association of Water Well Drilling. Rig Owners and Practitioners, AWDROP, in Lokoja.
He noted that though the law was in place,. there was need to harmonize it with other laws towards making it operational and result oriented.
The Commissioner explained that water governance was key hence the need to work in partnership with relevant bodies to attain set objectives in the sector.
He commended the body for indicating interest in the provision of potable water across the State, noting that there was hope based on the composition of its membership.
Engineer Yahaya assured that government would continue to encourage initiatives aimed at moving Kogi State to the next level.
Earlier, the National Vice President of AWDROP, Engineer Dayo Opeyemi said they were in Kogi State to hold the seventh Annual national conference of the Association.
Engineer Dayo noted that Kogi state remained the confluence of opportunities, saying that the hosting of the conference was for strategic reason and urged government to partner with the body for optimum results.
Also speaking,. a member of the Association, Professor Ikoola Okunlola explained that eighty percent of communicable diseases was attributable to lack of potable water.
Engineer Ikoola expressed readiness to provide one hundred units of borehole in each of the twenty one local government areas to mark the one hundred days in office of the present administration of Ahmed Usman Ododo
