Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo has expressed deep condolences over the passing of famous Nigerian actor, John Ikechukwu Okafor also known as Mr. Ibu, who passed away on March 2, 2024 at the age of 62.
Governor Ododo in his condolence message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Oladele John NIHI commended the immense contribution of Mr. Ibu to the Nigerian film industry where he left an indelible mark through his remarkable talent and comedic genius.
The Governor noted that Mr. Ibu’s versatile performances in over 200 films, including the iconic Mr. Ibu series, brought joy and laughter to many Nigerian homes and audiences across the globe.
“Mr. Ibu’s passion for his craft was evident in every role he played in a film or comedy thus captivating audiences with his unique style and infectious sense of humour.
His legacy as one of the trailblazers in the Nigerian film industry will continue to inspire generations of actors and comedians”, Governor Ododo said.
The Governor also extends heartfelt sympathies to his immediate family, the Actors Guild of Nigeria and the Nigerian entertainment industry in general stating that Mr Ibu’s impact in the industry will be deeply missed, but noted that his legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched with his artistry.
Governor Ododo joins other Nigerians to pray for the peaceful repose of the soul of the departed actor and solace to the bereaved family and friends of Mr. Ibu.
The late Mr. John Ikechukwu Okafor was born on October 17, 1961 and died on March 2, 2024 as a result of a protracted illness.
