Senate Confirms Appointment of President Tinubu’s Nominees as Auditor General of the Federation, 7 RECs

The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Mr Shaakaa Chira as Auditor General for the federation.

His confirmation followed the consideration of the request by President Bola Tinubu to the committee of the whole.

In the same vein, The Senate has confirmed 7 out of 10 nominees presented by President Tinubu as Resident Electoral Commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), following the request of the President Bola Tinubu, as presented by Senate Leader, Bamidele Okpeyemi.

He said that the confirmation of the nominees was in accordance with the Provisions of sections 154(1) of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Those confirmed include;, Mr. Etekarnba Umoren from Akwa-Ibom State, Mr. Isah Ehimeakne from Edo State, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola from Ekiti state, Mr. Abubakar Ahmed Mai‘aii from Gombe State.

Others are Mr Shehu Wahab from Kwara State, Mr. Aminu Kasimi Idris from Nasarawa State, and Mohammed Abubakar Sadiq from Niger state.

Those not confirmed include Bunmi Omoseyindem from Lagos state, Anugbum Onuoha from Rivers state and Abubakar Fawa Danbo from Zamfara state who were not present for the screening.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu had requested the approval of the Senate for the confirmation of 10 nominees for appointment as Resident Electoral Commissioners for the Independent National ooElectoral Commission on Tuesday.

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, who appreciated the qualities of the nominees appointed by the President, urged them to bring their experience to bear in the discharge of their duties.
