Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has attributed the peaceful conduct of Saturday’s local government elections in the state to the Federal Government’s support in tackling insecurity.

Governor Ododo stated this on Saturday shortly after casting his vote at Upogoro Unit 001, Okene Local Government Area.

The governor, who expressed satisfaction with the exercise, described the process as peaceful, transparent and credible.

He said the hitch-free poll was a demonstration of effective leadership and sustained collaboration between the federal and state governments.

“The President has given us the needed support to fight criminals and provide security for our people. This is an example of good governance and leadership,” Ododo said.

The governor recalled that past council polls in the state were characterised by violence, loss of lives and property, noting that his administration has sustained clearance operations across the state to protect lives and property.

He stressed that security remains a priority of his administration to create a safe environment for residents, travellers and investors.

Governor Ododo also enjoined opposition parties to campaign based on their achievements and development plans rather than criticising the ruling All Progressives Congress.

He commended officials of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission and other stakeholders for their roles in ensuring a peaceful exercise.
