Northern Senators Mourn Ex-Kogi Gov. Ibrahim Idris, Say Kogi Has Lost a Great Son

The Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua, has commiserated with the Government and people of Kogi State over the death of former Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Adejo Idris, popularly known as “Ibro.”

Yar’adua, in a condolence statement on Tuesday, described the death of the former governor as a profound loss to Kogi State, the Igala people and Nigeria, saying his contributions to public service and the development of the state would be remembered.

He said the late Ibrahim Idris was a remarkable Nigerian whose life reflected a deep belief in the unity, peace and progress of the country.

According to him, Idris devoted almost nine years to the service of Kogi State as governor between 2003 and 2012, making him the longest-serving governor in the history of the state.

Yar’adua noted that during his administration, Idris was associated with major interventions in infrastructure, water, education, healthcare, roads and other sectors of the state’s development.

The Northern Senators Forum chairman also recalled the late governor’s successful business career before he ventured into politics, noting that his enterprises in furniture manufacturing, construction, hospitality, property and commerce created employment and opportunities for many Nigerians.

He described Idris as an influential political figure whose relationships across the country reflected a pan-Nigerian outlook and commitment to the Nigerian project.

Yar’adua said the passing of the former governor had left a deep void, declaring that “Igala has lost a patriot; Kogi has lost an elder statesman; and Nigeria has lost a believer in the Nigerian project.”

He extended the forum’s condolences to the Idris family, the Igala people, the Government and people of Kogi State and the entire Peoples Democratic Party family.

Yar’adua prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, reward his good deeds and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, while asking God to grant his family and all Nigerians mourning his passing the strength and fortitude to bear the loss.
