The Nigerian Navy has appointed Captain Abiodun Abidemi Folorunsho as the new Director of Naval Information and Spokesperson, following the approval of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas.
The appointment takes effect from Tuesday, 27 January 2026.

Captain Folorunsho took over from Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, who served in the position for over two years and has been redeployed as the Commander of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT, the Navy’s premier base.
Born on 27 December 1979 in Benin City, Captain Folorunsho is a graduate of the Nigerian Military School, Zaria, and the Nigerian Defence Academy, where he was commissioned into the Nigerian Navy in September 2003.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering and multiple postgraduate degrees in War Studies, International Affairs, Energy Management, and National Security and Strategic Studies from institutions in Nigeria, Pakistan, Sweden, and the United States.
In the course of his career, the senior officer has held diverse operational, command, and strategic appointments, including service onboard several Nigerian Navy ships, participation in internal security operations, and senior instructional roles at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji.
Captain Folorunsho has also served in international assignments, including as a Military Liaison Officer with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan, and held management positions at the Naval Dockyard Limited, Lagos, contributing to indigenous shipbuilding efforts.
Before his current appointment, he served as Chief Instructor, Department of Maritime Warfare at AFCSC Jaji, and Assistant Director Plans/CNS Directive at Naval Headquarters.
A recipient of several military awards and decorations, Captain Folorunsho brings extensive experience in strategic communication, public relations, and public speaking to his new role as the face of the Nigerian Navy.
