Managing Director of the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has commenced a five day training for its Administrative Staff on Official Communication Skills with a call on them to uphold professionalism.
Managing Director of the Commission, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa while declaring the workshop open in Lokoja described Effective communication in public service as the bridge between government and the people.
Alhaji Yelwa said communication is a tool for personal and professional success stressing that ineffective communication of policies regardless of significance is tantamount to absence of them.
He emphasized the need for staff to develop proper communication skills, saying it builds understanding and trust between the Commission and the communities it was created to serve.
According to him, the Workshop is part of the Commission’s broader efforts to boost capacity of staff, urging them to utilize the skills learnt from the training maximally.
The Managing Director said N-HYPPADEC is currently focused on flood management related issues, agricultural and economic development as well as youth development in its jurisdictions noting that ensuring self-sustenance in communities is one of the core mandates of the Commission.
In a remark, the Kogi State Coordinator of the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission, Mr. Michael Omeiza Ajayi said the Workshop is crucial in helping staff polish their skills to help them serve humanity better.
Mr. Ajayi noted that N-HYPPADEC is committed to organizing prompt and frequent trainings to ensure that staff are not left behind in an evolving world.
Earlier, the lead facilitator of the Workshop and a Director at Oyeriyi Consult Limited, who are the organizers of the training, Mr. Emmanuel Akonti described communication as the livewire of public service and urged participants to approach the training with utmost seriousness.
A participant in the Workshop, Muazu Ojoro said the training is essential as effective communication skills are imperative in the modern world.
Another participant, Atika Abdullahi described the Workshop as impactful, saying poor communication is a administrative challenge that can lead to conflicts even within the Commission.
